The Kai’li Red FW is a close profile match the the Mitsubishi Thump F shaft that has been in my bag for years. This shaft has been offered by TaylorMade since 2002. In the 2004 custom shaft list, it is still available at no upcharge. the real beauty of this shaft is that it is a profile match to the Mitsubishi Diamana T+ which I just reviewed. It is offered in heavier weights than the T+ and therefore is a great fairway compliment to the Diamana T+ driver shaft.

Dynamic Gold 95 Iron Shaft Review

Dynamic Gold 95 Iron Golf Shaft Review

I have just learned to say True Sports instead of True Temper. Then the name changed again to TrueTemper Sports. That makes more sense, but all those words are much to long for the fields in my database. Hence, TrueTemper Sports is abbreviated to TTS.

Another name change I embrace is the expansion of the Dynamic Gold brand name applied to weight variations of the design. No longer, at least for the moment, will the Dynamic Archetype in different weights bear a different model name. More on this later in the review. For now, lets just say the 95 gram version of the Dynamic Gold fills out the line which now includes 105, 115, 120 and the original 130 gram models.

Project X U Golf Shaft Review

Project X U Golf Shaft Review

The Project X Utility (U) is a 0.370 tip, 40.5 inch long utility iron or hybrid shaft. It is designed to compliment the Project X iron shafts. After seeing it I wish more iron shaft companies would design similar compliments to their popular iron shafts.

I use steel shafts in strong player hybrids. This usually means using a tapered 2 iron shaft with a shim. The shim is necessary to put a 0.355 shaft into todays typical 0.370 hybrid hosel. The advantage of using steel in a hybrid is a combination of cost and consistency. Steel is 3 to 4 times the cost of a premium carbon fiber shaft. And, it matches the feel and rigidity of the strong players irons making it a perfect extension of the iron set.

Project X HZRDUS Black Gen4 Driver Shaft Review

TrueTemper Project X HZRDUS Black Gen4 Driver Shaft Review

The True Temper HZRDUS Black Gen4 features a new Dual Torsional Design throughout the shaft. It is the fourth HZRDUS Black model so the name Gen4 is appropriate. First was the Black. Next, the Smoke Black. That was followed by the third generation Smoke Black RDX. I see the last three generations as variations on a shaft I had a great respect for, the Project X Loading Zone

VA Composites Raijin 2.0 Driver Shaft Review

VA Composites Raijin 2.0 Driver Shaft Review

The VA Composites Raijin 2.0 is the second version of the VA Composites Raijin, the first shaft produced by Victor Afable in 2017. Raijin 2.0 bears no similarity to the original Raijin. It is a different design with new materials and is Filament Wound. There are very few foundries the I know of that can filament wind.

Typically carbon fiber shafts use flags of prepreg wrapped around a mandrel. Filament wound shafts are made by wrapping ribbons of prepreg around a mandrel. This is done automatically removing the skill of a craftsman from accurately positioning the prepreg flag. Orientation of the fiber is built into the prepreg ribbon.

Victor Afable has been in the golf business for 35 years, most of it on the shaft side. He knows golf shaft design and manufacturing. In 2017 he started his own shaft company, VA Composites. His shaft are made with Torayca prepreg as are most premium shafts. The designs are based on Victors experience on working with PGA Tour.
